2005 Global Leadership Development Survey shows that increasing competition and accelerating changes are bringing unprecedented challenge to business leaders and placing leadership up to the top organizational issue.
As the first international management training institute to enter China, AMA China has been putting together the global research findings and its up to 10 years’ local practice, to explore the best way to develop the leadership of Chinese managers and to provide with them a clear blueprint for leadership enhancement.
Building on AMA’s leadership research results and global leadership survey findings, leveraging our 10 years’ management training experience, and combining our learnings in the past three years through interviews with numerous Chinese senior executives, we developed the below leadership competence model for Chinese managers. We divide a leader’s role into 4 dimensions: business growth, operation excellence, people alignment, and competence development, and split each dimension into 3 aspects, with definitions and descriptions on the following pages.
We apply this model in implementing our “Organization Scan – Performance Analysis – Solution Design” training process. By ascertaining the performance gaps with the managers, we identify their competence gaps and design effective competence development solutions. Meanwhile, we hope this model can be a practical OD tool for the organizations for developing and retaining their key personnel and building their organization’s core competence.
