AMA and i4cp Release the Study Report "Big Data: Build Analytical Skills in Organizations"
2013-10-09
Faced with vast amounts of data, with cheaper but more powerful technology, business operations have become increasingly dependent on accurate data analysis. An article published in the 2012 Harvard Business Review said data scientist is the most attractive role in the workplace in the 21st century.
The American Management Association (AMA) and Institute for Corporate Productivity (i4cp) conducted a survey on the status and trends of the data analysis skills in organizations, covering 789 business people in over 50 industry sectors from more than 40 countries.
The survey has three highlights:
1. The top 10 key findings highlight the importance of data analysis skills in the era of big data, revealing the features and differences of "analytic organization" and "non-analytical organization";
2. Given the fact that the analytical skills of employees are weaker than the expectations of the organizations which employ them, a complete set of action plans is provided to guide human resources departments to develop the data mining and interpreting skills of successful employees and develop the data-analysis-based decision-making abilities of leaders;
3. The report cites many classic studies, articles and cases, and thoroughly explains the survey results to make them more vivid and insightful for readers.
